Blackville to hold official provincial New Brunswick Day celebration

BLACKVILLE (GNB) – Official New Brunswick Day celebrations will be held this year on Monday, Aug. 5, in Blackville.

“New Brunswick Day is an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the past and present of our culture and way of life,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. “Last year’s celebrations in Saint-André were a great success, and we believe that holding celebrations in rural communities is an ideal way to honour rural life in our province. I encourage all New Brunswickers to celebrate New Brunswick Day, Aug. 5, in Blackville.”

The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. at the municipal park, 136 Main St., Blackville. The official opening will be followed by music, activities and kiosks.

“We are glad to be hosting this year’s official New Brunswick Day celebrations,” said Matthew Sturgeon, interim mayor of Blackville. “We look forward to showcasing our people and our culture to the entire province, enabling us to be true to our community’s motto: Famous for our river but remembered for our people. Come celebrate with us on Aug 5.”

New Brunswick Day has been celebrated since 1976. An official host community has been chosen for New Brunswick Day celebrations since 1990.
